Frequently Asked Questions

Is Wizdog Guaranteed?
If you are not 100% satisfied for any reason whatsoever within 30 days of receiving your Wizdog, simply let us know and you will be issued a prompt and courteous refund -- no questions asked!
What’s a Wizdog?
Wizdog is a home toilet for dogs. It was designed to provide permanent solutions to these two most distressing problems: 1) Soiled floors and carpeting. 2) Soiled paws.
How does Wizdog work?
Through a special grid, Wizdog drains and contains the urine at the bottom of the tray, preventing the liquid puddle from contacting the paws. The bottom tray in turn keeps the urine from reaching the floor.
Do you carry larger sizes for larger dogs?
Wizdog was designed for small and medium-sized breeds and it may seem somewhat narrow to larger dogs. Wizdog, however, can sustain dogs weighing up to 200 lbs. The best solution is to put two (2) Wizdogs side-by-side (as shown on the product page) and saddle the adjoining side with newspaper or training pad, thus creating one large surface. It works excellent!
What are Wizdog's specifications?
The Wizdog measures 21 inches X 28 inches and weighs approximately 3 lbs. Each grid cell measures approximately 5/8 inches square and 1/2 inches deep. The Wizdog was designed to fit most newspapers and scented pads. The Wizdog is made of non-toxic polystyrene
Why Wizdog and Not Ugo-Dog or Pet-a-Potty?
Wizdog is a one-time purchase. It is simple, safe and sanitary. I it keeps paws dry, protects your floors, is reusable and durable, is easy to clean, and has a pure and beautiful design. Priced at under $30, Wizdog costs less than what you would normally spend on competing products and supplies in one year. With Wizdog, the choice is clear.
Can male dogs use the Wizdog?
Absolutely! Male dogs are little trickier to train. As puppies you can train them that they do not need to lift their leg, but rather just crouch as they do not need to mark their territory (which you probably don't want anyway!). As adults it is harder to train them as they have become accustomed to lifting their legs. Generally it will take several weeks to train them to quit lifting their legs. The training manual that comes free with your purchase of the Wizdog gives a great way to train your dog around using the Wizdog.
I have a small dog, can he/she use the Wizdog?
The wizdog is the perfect size for your dog. It will allow your pup a little room to sniff around as a puppy especially when using the puppy pads. Once your pup grows to be an adult, then they will not need to sniff anymore as your pup knows the wizdog is for her (and not other dogs).
Do I have to use absorbent pads or newspapers?
Wizdog can be used stand-alone and does not require any refills.
Can my dog's paws or claws get stuck in the grid?
No. We never had an incident during the development and testing of Wizdog. The grid is only 3/8 of an inch deep and has a safe and smooth surface. The grid will not hurt your dog's paws.
Is Wizdog easy to clean?
Wizdog is made of two plastic parts weighing less than 3 lbs. They are light and flexible and can be easily cleaned with a mild detergent. We recommend cleaning Wizdog regularly.
What happens when there is solid waste?
When your dog does a #2 on Wizdog, simply lift the top grid and flip to dispose of. You never have to touch solid waste matter. The Wizdog grid is shallow enough not to complicate the cleaning process.
Can older dogs use the Wizdog?
Age has little to do with training your dog to use the Wizdog. Most dogs can be trained at any time, however, it does take older dogs a little longer to understand the idea, as well as adapt to the change. Since your dog is used to going outside, you will need to start by keeping your dog inside and when she wants to go outside, simply place her on the Wizdog (or lead her there). Given some time, a little patience and a lot of praise, your dog will get the idea. The WIZDOG should be placed on a smooth surface, such as the floor in the kitchen or the bathroom. Place the WIZDOG with a side against a wall, preferably not in a corner, and make sure your pet’s bedding and bowls are at least 6 ft away, as dogs do not like to eliminate near their bedding and eating areas.
What if my dog or puppy is already paper-trained?
If your dog or puppy is already trained to use newspapers or scented pads, you can expect immediate results. Simply place the WIZDOG tray in the same location and place newspapers or scented pads inside the tray. Do not use the grid yet. Make sure your dog or puppy gets used to the new tray for the first few sessions. After several successful sessions, simply place the WIZDOG grid on top of the newspapers or scented pad, and make sure he gets familiarized with it. Your dog or puppy can now eliminate and walk off the tray with unsoiled paws. After several successful uses, you can stop using the scented pads. Always praise your dog or puppy after each successful use. NEVER punish him during training. Reprimanding your dog or puppy would only confuse him and delay the training process.
What if I bring a dog or puppy home for the first time?
If you bring a dog or a puppy home for the first time, confine him to the kitchen or a fenced-in area when not supervised. It is important not to give him the run of the house initially. Place the WIZDOG tray with the short side against a wall, and make sure your pet’s bedding and bowls are at least 6 ft away, as dogs do not eliminate near their bedding and eating areas. You can use scented pads to attract your dog or puppy to the location of the tray. We recommend the “capture” of a small amount of your dog’s urine on a paper towel in order to place the towel in the tray. This way, the scent from the paper towel will attract your dog or puppy and indicate that it is okay to have urine at that particular location indoors. Do not use the grid yet. Make sure he gets familiarized with the location and the odor, and don’t forget to give lots of praise. You may want to cover a large area under the tray with paper, and then gradually remove the paper as he learns to eliminate closer to and eventually inside the tray.
What if my dog misses the tray?
Your dog or puppy may “miss” the tray during the first few sessions. This is normal, and despite the mess left behind, you should give lots of praise while placing him on the tray. It is important that your dog or puppy associates the tray with the act of elimination, and not an act of misbehavior. Always leave a small amount of urine-scented paper towel on the tray until the training is complete (you may place the towel under a sheet of newspaper). After a dozen successful sessions, simply add the grid to the top of the tray, make sure he gets familiarized with it, and don’t forget to give lots of praise!
What if my dog is already trained to eliminate outdoors?
If your dog or puppy is already trained to eliminate outdoors, the training process requires a little patience. When not supervised, keep your pet and the WIZDOG in the kitchen or in a room with a fenced-in area. Make sure your pet’s bed and bowls are at least 6 ft away, as dogs do not like to eliminate near their bedding and eating areas. You can use scented pads to attract your dog or puppy to where the tray is located. We also recommend the “capture” a small amount of urine on a paper towel in order to place it in the tray. The scent will indicate to your pet that it is okay to have urine at that particular location indoors. Do not use the grid yet. Make sure he gets familiarized with the location and the odor. Don’t forget to give lots of praise. Your dog or puppy may “miss” the tray during the first few sessions. This is normal, and despite the mess left behind, you should give lots of praise while placing him/her on the tray. It is important that your pet associates the act of elimination with the tray. You may want to place additional newspapers under the tray in case he misses. Always leave a small amount of scented paper towel on the tray until the training is complete. Constant praise is very important throughout training. After a dozen successful sessions, simply add the grid to the top of the tray, make sure he gets familiarized with it and don’t forget to give lots of praise!
How do I get my dog to use the Wizdog?

The easiest way to train your pup is place treats in the middle and every time he/she gets on the Wizdog, be sure to praised them enthusiastically. Then each time your pup gets on it, give them another treat until they appear to be comfortable with it.

Next, capture some of their urine while they go potty outside and placed it under the grate. Then place your pup on the Wizdog, be sure to praise her and allow her to sniff around, ensuring they smell their own urine. Each morning when your pup has a full bladder, put her on a leash and keep her on the Wizdog. Eventually your pup will start to understand the association with the Wizdog and her going potty.

Like all training and any new behavior it takes time and patience – for you and your doggie. We have over 20,000 households and doggies from every breed imaginable using the Wizdog everyday. The little time and energy it takes to train the new behavior is REALLY worth it in the end.

Another easy trick is to try and use the WizPad under the grate. This helps out two ways, first it makes the grate feel softer so your dog shouldn't mind walking on it; and second the WizPads contain a pheromone to promote elimination on the Wizdog.
